IRV for the Voter

sample ballot Voting in an IRV Ranked Choice election is simple and straightforward.

If during the counting of the votes a candidate receives more than 50%, a winner is declared and the election is over. If there is no majority winner, then the ballots are recounted.

This recount (or "instant runoff") takes into account your second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth choices. This recounting process continues until one of the candidates receives a majority of the votes.

That's it. Easy as 1, 2, 3!
